Up to thirty years ago, Prosecco was only consumed in Veneto, the region where it originates from. Ever since then everything in Italy took a big leap forward. The success was mainly based on the fact that Prosecco was experienced as the perfect aperitif. Currently, it is not as much an aperitif as it is a refreshing drink which can be consumed at any time and place. It has become an individual product, and gained a position next to beer and wine.
The Prosecco market quickly expanded to neighbouring countries, such as Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. These are the main countries in which Prosecco is available in nearly each hotel, bar, nightclub or restaurant.

Now other countries have also discovered Prosecco such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom and the northern European countries. Again, the reason is that an increasing number of consumers discover that Prosecco can be consumed in an easy and pleasant manner, which is partly based on the refreshing characteristics and the low alcohol percentage.
